When I first saw Aikido I was immediately mesmerised by the gracefulness of the art. Of particular appeal to me was the non-aggressive nature of the art, that in the best circumstances allows the disabling of aggression with minimum harm.
I started my Aikido training in 1986 with Johan Buiter Sensei (4th Dan), Riai Aikido after enjoying Tae Kwon Do and competing in fencing (foil) for a couple of years.
As a student, the discovery of new layers of the art each year has kept me inspired.
As a teacher, I love introducing and sharing Aikido with new students.
The people I am lucky enough to teach and train with have kept me loving the practice.
The social community is an enjoyable and valuable part of Riai Aikido.
